World War Hulk

The Hulk is a fictional character that appears in comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character first appeared in The Incredible Hulk #1 (May 1962), and was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. The Hulk is one of Marvel Comics' most recognized characters.

The Hulk is cast as an emotional and impulsive alter ego of the withdrawn and reserved physicist Dr. Bruce Banner. The Hulk appears shortly after Banner was accidentally exposed to the blast of a test detonation of a gamma bomb he invented. Subsequently, Banner will often involuntarily transform into the Hulk, depicted as a giant, raging monster, leading to extreme complications in Banner's life. While the coloration of the character's skin varies during the course of its publication history, the Hulk is most often depicted as green.

As the Hulk, Banner is capable of immense feats of strength, which increases with his feelings of rage and anger. Anger is a common trigger of Banner's transformation. A common storyline is the pursuit of both Banner and the Hulk by the police or the armed forces, due to the destruction he causes.

The fictional Green Lantern Corps is an intergalactic police force featured in DC Comics, particularly featuring the superhero Green Lantern, Earth’s member of the group.

The Green Lantern Corps patrols the reaches of space at the behest of the Guardians of the Universe, a race of immortals as old as the universe, vastly powerful, noble-minded and hyper-intelligent, but also arrogant and obstinately committed to ancient traditions. The Guardians created the Green Lantern Corps some three billion years ago and the force has survived multiple rebellions, murders and collapses from within and outside. The Guardians administer the Corps from the planet Oa at the center of the universe. The Guardians divided the universe into 3,600 “sectors” and choose two natives of each sector to serve as that sector's protectors. Thus the Corps holds 7,200 members, plus additional numbers serving in roles not linked to particular sectors (such as drill instructors and the honor guard). Each Green Lantern is given a power ring, a fantastic weapon and artifact granting the bearer incredible power limited only by their willpower.

Tarot: Witch of the Black Rose is an American comic book, written and drawn by Jim Balent and published by Broadsword Comics since 1999.

It is the story of Tarot, a warrior witch, and her family, friends and lovers. The comic generally features stories of fantasy action and adventure interspersed with frequent scenes of nudity, which have grown progressively stronger as the series has gone on. Most current issues have the characters nude for at least a part of the issue.

As well as the comic narrative, each issue is backed up with interviews with actual witches (who are also sometimes nude) and Wiccan practitioners, and advertisements for "real-life" spells and potions branded with the Tarot name.

From the mind of Jenna Jameson, NY Times Bestselling author and iconic entertainer and written by Christina Z (WITCHBLADE) comes a dark tale of one woman's struggle with forces beyond ordinary perception. In this Special Oversized issue, star artist Mukesh Singh (GAMEKEEPER) illustrates the beginning of the saga. A young, orphaned, beautiful woman attempts to make a life for herself in the big city. As she grapples with mundane problems like making rent and a creepy manager at work, something deeper brews; a nagging suspicion that her life is not her own. Seeking answers (not to mention extra cash) she enrolls in a past life regression experiment which seems to ignite visions of a demonic past that no one can explain.

Then comes the titillating and strangely dangerous power she's not sure she can control, and a mysterious guy with the sword who just won't leave her alone. It's one hell of a day for our heroine, especially when she discovers who her real father is.

Thor: Son of Asgard was a comic book series published by Marvel Comics in 2004 to 2005. It was originally a mini-series of 6 issues but was later extended to an ongoing series that lasted for 12 issues in total.

Storylines

The series followed Thor's early adventures in Asgard with Sif and Balder.

The Warriors Teen (#1-6)

Odin sends Thor, Sif and Balder on a quest to find four items that will then be fashioned into an enchanted blade. Both Karnilla and Loki learn of the quest and separately try to stop the trio from completing it. However when Karnilla captures Loki and attempts to convince him to aid her in overthrowing Odin, Loki refuses and instead informs Thor, Sif and Balder of Karnilla's plan. Sif, Balder and Loki return to Odin to prepare for the attack while Thor completes the quest.

Enchanted (#6-9)

Amora and Loki work together to trick Sif into stealing the Mirror of Mycha.

Worthy (#10-12)

Hela conspires with the Storm Giants to kill Thor by capturing Sif and threatening to kill her. However when Thor offers himself in Sif's place, Hela decides against killing him as it wouldn't break Odin's heart as she had hoped as Thor would die an honorable death.

A mysterious villain has discovered Spider-Man's secret identity... and is using the information to slowly destroy everything and everyone that Peter Parker cares about. But how far will Spider-Man go to protect the people he loves? Is he willing to cross a boundary we thought we'd never see him cross? Featuring Spider-Man’s most fearsome foes and avenging allies!

Sensational Spider-Man (vol. 2) is the name of an ongoing comic book starring Spider-Man and published monthly by Marvel Comics, formerly under the Marvel Knights imprint (as Marvel Knights Spider-Man, issues #1-22).

The underlying difference between this title and the other Spider-Man titles is that Marvel Knights Spider-Man is done with a more mature slant (in style if not content), thus the "Marvel Knights" prefix.

Intended to replace the canceled Spider-Man's Tangled Web series, Marvel Knights Spider-Man was originally supposed to be written by Kevin Smith, but due to scheduling problems he was replaced by Mark Millar.

When Millar completed his year-long story arc, he was followed by writer Reginald Hudlin.

With the consolidation of the Marvel Knights line1, Marvel Knights Spider-Man was renamed The Sensational Spider-Man as of issue 23. At this time, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa took over writing duties on the book.

But they are just the program's prototypes, and now that their testing is complete they're slated to be permanently "de-commissioned" — until they seize their one chance to make a desperate run for freedom. Relentlessly pursued by their makers, the WE3 team must navigate a frightening and confusing world where their instincts and heightened abilities make them as much a threat as those hunting them — but a world, nonetheless, in which somewhere there is something called "home."

Adapted from the William Hope Hodgson novel
by Richard Corben and Simon Revelstroke

DC/Vertigo, Hardcover

The year is 1952. The place--the West of Ireland. Two friends, bold young men recently kicked out of university at Oxford, decide to take a "cultural" walking tour of the Emerald Isle. One evening, after a rather unpleasant run-in with some locals at a pub in the hamlet of Kraighten, the two friends flee into the woods, only to come across something even more shocking and, ultimately, more terrifying. What they find are the ruins of a once-great house surrounded by tangled foliage, situated at the edge of a giant ravine into which pours a river of subterranean origin. Amidst the rubble of the house the friends come across a moldy old tome.

The book is a diary, a testament of the man who, nearly 150 years earlier, lived in the house that once stood there, overlooking what the locals called "The Pit." In the course of his writings the man describes the horrific events which occurred in what he calls "The House on the Borderland."

Within a short time of having resided there, accompanied only by his sister, Mary, and his faithful hound, Pepper, it became clear to the man that the house--and the pit below--were indeed a focus of some great evil which was clamoring to make its way into this world--assaulting the minds and bodies of those who lived there. Even the heavens themselves seemed to be infused with this evil, which seeps into the very souls of those who fall under its sickly light, producing incredible fears, unnatural thoughts and unspeakable horrors. And this is to say nothing of the horrific beasts that crawl from The Pit itself.

The man's grim tale leaves many questions unanswered, but one most important to those reading it--did the evil here crumble with the house, or is it just waiting for more souls upon which to prey?

As weird as weird can be

This comic, from DC's rich Vertigo line ("Suggested for Mature Readers"), is based pe Hodgson novel of the same name, originally published in 1908. The House on the Borderland was a weird and fantastical book back then, it's a weird and fantastical book now, and its comic book adaptation is no exception.

Richard Corben's art does a wonderful job of portraying the gut-wrenching horror to which the various characters are subjected in this story; the beings (human and bestial) and the spaces ("real" and "imagined") inhabiting this graphic novel are almost palpable, as is the fear and the evil which surround them. This most visceral, gothic tale has received a most visceral, gothic imagistic treatment. Lee Loughridge's colors convey the sickly and horrific hues this story projects well.

As good as the art is, however, the comic as a whole gets caught up by some of the narrative weirdness, quirkiness and unevenness (inherited from the original book) that can prove as much a distraction as an interesting facet of the tale. Simon Revelstroke's script, while it most certainly has its moments, unravels at the ends a bit and never quite seems to get on top of this story's many terribly strange, even trippy elements. Put simply, given all the story's dreams and visions and jumps in time, The House on the Borderland can sometimes be hard, even frustrating, to follow and to enjoy.

Much of the comic's text is Revelstroke's own words, which blend well with those of Hodgson's original work. A new framing story and some new and different psychological views into the mind of the man of the House (as well as into his sister's part in things) are additions to the original story. The extensive temporal and cosmological--that is, the "more" science fictional--elements (which are wonderfully fascinating) present in Hodgson's 1908 text but missing in the Vertigo adaptation are noticeable absences.

DC Comics
1996
Written by Chuck Dixon.

Letterer John Costanza.

Presented with the premise for Chuck Dixon's The Joker: Devil's Advocate, it's easy to offer up an eye roll. The Joker is falsely accused of committing murder, but is put on trial anyway. No one seems to care a lick about the madman's innocence except for Batman, who, despite the Joker's innumerable other murders, doesn't want the Clown Prince put to death for something he didn't do. Hokey? Sure. But Devil's Advocate is a thoughtful, well-written tale of the Dark Knight.
